Recently I went to a nice cafe in the mountains south of Taipei. The Greenery Cube Cafe is an older villa that was transformed into a cafe. The garden was redesigned to give it an old appearance, which makes it a nice place for photography. So it was a good chance to use my Zenza Bronica ETRSi and the last roll of Fomapan 100 film. At home I developed the film in Ilfotec LC29. The negatives looked all fine and I was looking forward to scan them and look at the images.
But something went wrong. On almost all images black spots were to see. On some only a few small spots, on others almost all of the image was covered by these spots. For all films which I developed by myself, I never saw something like this. I also asked other film photographers if they knew what this could be, but nobody had an explanation for this. First I thought, perhaps something with the chemicals was wrong, or that Fomapan and Ilfotec LC29 developer are not matching. However, I could not find any information about this on the internet. Additionally my routine for film development has not changed. And all films before and after that particular roll of Fomapan were perfectly fine.
After some thinking, I noticed, that this is the second roll of Fomapan 100 which had issues. The first roll which I developed had many fine lines on them (here are the photos), also the surface of the negative was rough. It felt like there were crystals on it. But at that time I blamed the expired fixer for it. Now I am wondering if I got a bad batch of the film.
