Der Baishajia Leuchtturm (白沙岬燈塔), auch Paisha Chia Leuchtturm genannt, befindet sich im Guanyin District, Taoyuan City, an der Westküste Taiwans. Er ist der südlichste von den acht Leuchttürmen im nördlichen Teil Taiwans. Der Turm wurde 1901 während der japanischen Kolonialzeit errichtet, dann im 2. Weltkrieg stark beschädigt und anschließend wieder aufgebaut. Der knapp 28 m hohe Leuchtturm ist noch heute in Betrieb.
Etwas überrascht war ich, dass der Leuchtturm sich etwa 600 Meter von der Küste landeinwärts befindet. Obwohl die Westküste sehr flach ist und der Turm auf einem kleinen Hügel auf etwa 16 m NN steht, kann man den Leuchtturm nicht aus der Entfernung sehen, da er von Industrieanlagen und einem Highway umzingelt ist. Leider ist dadurch auch der Blick vom Leuchtturm auf die Küste nicht wirklich schön. Da der Leuchtturm noch in Betrieb ist, ist der Turm nicht begehbar. Man kann sich etwas auf dem sehr gepflegten parkähnlichen Gelände umsehen und eine kleine Ausstellung über den Leuchtturm besuchen. Es gibt noch einen größeren Park um die Leuchtturmanlage herum. Aber man ist mit dem Besuch relativ schnell durch. Eher etwas für einen kurzen Zwischenstopp, wenn man gerade in der Gegend ist. So wie es bei mir der Fall war.
Direkt in der Nachbarschaft des Leuchtturms befindet sich ein Tempel (徐子貴祭祀公業) und einige traditionelle taiwanesische Wohnhäuser, die einen Besuch wert sind. Leider war nicht viel Zeit, so bin ich nur an ihnen vorbeigefahren und konnte keine Fotos machen.

The Baishajia lighthouse is located at the west-coast of Taiwan (Guanyin District, Taoyuan City). It is the southernmost lighthouse from the eight lighthouses along the northern coastline of Taiwan. In 1901 during the Japanese colonial period the tower was constructed. During World War 2 it was heavily damaged and later rebuild. The 28 m high lighthouse is still operating.
Surprising for me was to see, that the lighthouse stands about 600 m away from the coast line. Even though the west-coast is very flat, and the tower stands on a small hill at an elevation of about 16 m a.s.l., it is not possible to see the lighthouse from a distance. Factories and a highway are blocking the view. Unfortunately the factories are also blocking the view from the lighthouse area towards the coast. There is actually no nice view on the coast. Because the tower is still operating, it is not possible to climb to the top. You can walk around, see some buildings, and visit a small exhibition about the lighthouse. There is also a nice park around the lighthouse where you can have a short walk. However, the entire area is quite small and so the visit is short. The Baishajia lighthouse is a good destination for a short visit when you are already traveling in this area.
Next to the lighthouse is a huge temple and several traditional Taiwanese houses, which seemed to be worth a visit. Unfortunately I didn’t have much time, so I could not take photos there.

Und wie immer an der Westküste gibt es auch hier zahlreiche Bunker. Die Bäume fand ich aber viel interessanter. – As always along the west-coast there are many bunker. But the trees are much more interesting.
Es gibt auf dem Gelände viele alte Bäume. Leider hat das Foto aus unbekannten Gründen einen Grünstich bekommen. – There are many old trees in this area. For some unknown reason the photo has a greenish tint.
Auf dem Rückweg nach Taipeh gab es bei Bali noch diesen unromantischen Sonnenuntergang zu sehen. – On the way back to Taipei, near Bali, there was this unromantic sunset.
